Some football thoughts

Heisman Trophy-

No big time front runners right now, which makes it even more intriguing. Will someone win this award on a big stage with one game? Does Tebow win it by default if the Gators run the table and win a title? I’ll take a stab at a short list, not in any particular order:

Tim Tebow (1323 passing 18 total TD’s 4 INT’s). Superman has a chance to put up some huge numbers this week against Vandy
Jimmy Clausen (2300 passing 18TD’s 2 INT’s). Clausen is missing his marquee win, but’s keeping ND in the national picture; he also has big number potential this week against Navy (Sorry Gerald).
Mark Ingram (1000 yds rushing 11 Total TD’s) Ingram is catching up to Tebow as the front runner I think, he can be in the driver seat with a nice performance against LSU this weekend and a Bama W
Golden Tate (1000 rec 11 total TD’s) Tate has been explosive the past three weeks, and darn near impossible to cover. He’d take votes away from Clausen, but is the real deal.
CJ Spiller (10 total TD’s, DOING EVERYTHING) Spiller is the only reason to watch Clemson. He’s lighting in a bottle and can go 60+ in a New York minute

Cleveland Browns-

The city is burning. Lerner fired George Konkis yesterday, and is probably sizing up Mangini to be next. Heads are rolling in this organization, even interns and assistants are getting canned. A lot of arrows are pointing toward Bernie Kosar and a front office job.

NFL-

The Saints seem to have some things figured out in this league. What has happened to all the QB’s, I feel like all of a sudden there is a huge group that has just lost it?

MNF quickie

October 27, 2009

So, the Redskins are REALLY, REALLY Bad…Maybe all of the Redskin alums are right and Jim Zorn is a putz?

Love Donovan McNabb, I hate the offense that he’s in…Stats right now 6-9 47 yards…Damn it, chuck the ball, my fantasy team needs you.

DeSean Jackson is blazing fast! I’ll admit, I wasn’t sure he’d amount to anything in this league, but he’s slowly proving me wrong. Not that my opinion means anything.

Is Clinton Portis done?

Freddie Barnes

October 12, 2009

Did anyone see what kind of numbers Freddie Barnes put up against Kent State on Saturday?

22 catches for 278 yards and 3 TD’s

Through 6 games Barnes leads the nation with 75 catches for 755. He’s on pace to break the NCAA single season record that was set back in 1989.

Yeah, he’s legit and get goes to BG!3918813

MLB drama…I almost forgot they were still playing

October 6, 2009

Because the Indians have been so horrible, I’ve almost forgotten that there are some really good teams out there….

Twins vs. Tigers

Tonight the MLB takes center stage with a one game play in…The winner gets the division and a date with the Yankees.

The Detroit area could certainly use some additional success.

Game stuff starts at 5 pm.

2 QB’s that no one is talking about…

October 1, 2009

Jake Locker of Washington

Tony Pike of Cincinnati

These guys can flat out play. The Bearcats take on Miami of Ohio this week and Pike is sure to put up HUGE numbers.

Locker puts his talents on display in South Bend this weekend versus the Irish. The Irish have to be careful of Locker and his upstart wideouts or they could be upset by the Huskies for the first time ever.

Cleveland is burning

October 1, 2009

So it was a tough day for my favorite town yesterday.

The Indians put a cap on a horrific season by firing Eric Wedge. Then they told him to finish out the season?

Eric Mangini continues to show that he can’t manage and doesn’t have a plan for the Cleveland Browns by giving the starting job to Derek Anderson, and then telling him not to turn the ball over.

Delonte West hasn’t shown up for camp yet and people are starting to get worried. The Cavs will be hurting badly if he’s gone for any reason.

I’m really looking forward to seeing the lineup that a lame-duck Wedge will put on the field against Boston this weekend.

Falcons need THE DOYT to rock!

September 25, 2009

This weekend, BGSU takes on the fellas from Boise State at 7 pm under the lights of Doyt Perry Stadium. The BGSU family MUST come out in full go Falcon mode to help create a raucus environment. Boise State is sure to be used to it, but they aren’t on the smurf turf so things will be different.

Can the Falcon secondary hold firm?
Can the Falcon D give Boise State enough different looks?
Can the Falcon O control the ball enough to beat up the Broncos?

We’ll find out.

Ay Ziggy Zoomba!

Go Falcons

Cowboys Staduim

September 21, 2009

Looks pretty legit tonight on Sunday Night Football.

So far DeMarcus Ware is eating people alive, and Eli is struggling.

Where’s my punt off the HD?

Kentucky Fans…

August 20, 2009

Are you worried yet? John Calipari just had his second team put under investigation and penalized. Sorry Memphis and UMass. Is your great program next? Or is it all about winning?

I guess we’ll find out in a few years.

Transformers-Revenge Of The Fallen

June 30, 2009

3523157688_6e3f82a9a5Just another kick butt Transformers movie.  I decided that I’d hook up with some buddies at our local movie theatre and see the highly anticipated Tranformers Revenge of the Fallen  flick.  Boy was I glad I did.

ROTF is wall to wall action.  It is visually stunning with all of the CG that Michael Bay put into each shot with the Autobots and the Decepticons.  From the main character Sam Witwicky’s house, to his college dorm, to Shanghai, China, Bay’s ability to set up a shot really shined in this film.  Many reviews that I have read talked about how crappy the overall piece is, and I think they are mistaken.  Here are a few things that really impressed me about ROTF:

-The Autobot characters are bigger and badder then ever.  Bay introduced several newbies that payed homage to the Transformers cartoons of old, but had a new spin to them.  My favorite new character was Sideswipe, who was the new Corvette Stingray(Wow by the way).  Swipe had attitude and speed, but unfortunately, we didn’t get enough of him.  You could tell a little bit that merch sales might have had a say in who’s rolls were the biggest, because we saw a lot of Bumblee and Optimus.  Bay also brings to life Arcee, the three female motorcycle Autobots.  There is a nice chase scene with Sideswipe and Arcee chasing a Decepticon in China, that has the girls of Arcee riding on one wheel peppering their enemy with machine gun fire.  You gotta love that.  There is also the Twins that provide some nice slapstick humor, but get plunged into action Autobot style toward the end of the movie.  I think that I would have liked to hear a little bit more from the new and old Autobots.  Ratchet and Ironhide play big rolls, but there isn’t as much talking from them.

-The Decepticons are bigger and badder then ever.  I’ll say this, the Decepticons dole out some serious ass beatings to the humans.  The give equal the amount of punishment to the Autobots, including one extremely well placed sword blow.  I think the coolest blast from the past is Ravage, the Decepticon dog.  Ravage helps set traps and do recon and is 100% mean.  It was cool to see Bay’s interpretation of him.  Devastator makes an appearance, and just watching him get assembled was awesome.    It was almost to fast in the movie, but it was a real production.    Megatron does his thing, but has several funny lines insulting Starscream, just as he does in the cartoon.  As for The Fallen, well he hammer’s people.

-As for the storyline, its not nearly as bad as everyone says it is.  I think Bay pulls it together nicely, but gives the people what they want. Ultimately, the robots are on display, and his ability to have them shape change and battle are what people go to see.  If your going to see this movie for anything else but that, you might be let down.  The plot fits the action perfectly, but its not as robust as your typical movie drama.  He does give both human and robots some classic lines, with more humor then the first movie.Michael Bay has never been a guy that is gonna give you a Goodfella’s type script, but he’s going to massage the script to the action and make it fit. I believe that he accomplishes this nicely.

So why go and see Transformers Revenge Of The Fallen?  Wall to wall action, stunning visuals and special effects.  Megan Fox and Shia Labeouf don’t hurt either.  Go and see the movie to plug into your youth and remember what an awesome cartoon Transformers was.  I fits nicely next to the first movie and definitely out does its action. Just go because, well, it’s more then meets the eye…

Roll out!
